Hosting by Cloudflare

The site runs on infrastructure provided by Cloudflare, Inc., 101 Townsend St, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA. When you visit, Cloudflare processes technically necessary data: IP address, time, requested URL, browser identifier and referrer. This is needed to deliver the site and to protect it against attacks. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR; my legitimate interest is secure, fast and error-free operation.

A data processing agreement under Art. 28 GDPR is in place with Cloudflare. Cloudflare is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, which is the basis for any transfer to the USA (Art. 45 GDPR).

Server logs

For troubleshooting and abuse protection, the server logs every request (time, requested URL, status code, browser identifier, referrer; the IP address may be included). Cloudflare deletes these logs automatically after at most 7 days. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR; my legitimate interest is being able to detect errors and attacks.

If someone requests an address that does not exist, the content management system stores the path, the referrer and the browser identifier, but no IP address. This is how I find broken links. At most the 10,000 most recently requested missing addresses are kept; older entries are deleted automatically. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.

Light/dark setting

If you click "Light" or "Dark" in the footer, your browser remembers that choice in local storage (localStorage). The information stays on your device and is not sent to me. No consent is required because you explicitly request this function (Section 25(2) No. 2 TDDDG). You can delete the entry at any time in your browser settings.

Contact by email or phone

If you contact me, I process your details to answer your request. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR where a possible engagement is concerned, otherwise Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (my interest in answering enquiries). I delete the data once it is no longer needed for the request and no statutory retention obligations apply.

My mailbox is hosted by Google Workspace. The contracting party is Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland, with whom a data processing agreement is in place. Any transfer to Google LLC in the USA is based on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework (Art. 45 GDPR).

Your rights

You have the right of access (Art. 15 GDPR), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18) and data portability (Art. 20). An informal email to me is enough.

You can also lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR). The authority responsible for me is the Berlin Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information.

Right to object

Where I process data on the basis of Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, you may object to this processing at any time on grounds relating to your particular situation (Art. 21 GDPR). I will then stop processing the data unless I can demonstrate compelling legitimate grounds that override your interests, or the processing serves the establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims.

Other

You are not obliged to provide me with personal data. Without the technically necessary connection data, however, the site cannot be delivered, and without contact details I cannot reply to you. There is no automated decision-making or profiling under Art. 22 GDPR.
